About Us

The story of Joe and Carol deLaGarza is about commitment, determination, and a strong work ethic.

In 1985 Joe deLaGarza was making $5.50 an hour as a laborer for a small barricade and pavement marking company in Sarasota, Florida. After a few years Joe decided to pursue a career in road construction;  so with the strong support of his wife and partner Carol, purchased two used handliners and an old pave mark thermoplastic trailer -- and in 1988, established  Center-Line Road Striping, Inc.

Carol continued to work full time and Joe would travel across the state doing road striping jobs, often more than one at a time. They made sacrifices at home in order to invest in their company and buy more equipment.

They earned a reputation for providing quality products delivered with quality workmanship -- and the company grew larger each year.  In 1992 Joe and Carol joined with two partners and expanded their services to include the manufacture and installation of highway signs throughout the state.  Two years later the partners retired and the deLaGarzas became sole owners of Road-Runner Highway Signs, Inc..  Their operations were located in Sarasota until 2004 when they purchased the Bradenton property where they remain today. This large facility houses their offices, manufacturing center and equipment storage.

In 2004 Joe and Carol expanded their services to include traffic signalization, highway lighting and guardrails. With this addition they could offer "one-stop-shopping" for their clients in the road building business,  including the Florida Department of Transportation and large road construction company projects throughout Southwest Florida. A few years later Center-Line Road Striping and Road-Runner Highway Signs merged into one (Road Runner Highway Signs, Inc.), making it one of the largest minority owned businesses in Florida offering road construction-related products and services.

The deLaGarzas credit their success to several things: hard work, determination,  and faith -- and a great team of 85 employees, the "Road Runner Family" -- who have helped to make the company what it is today. Besides their commitment to running a successful business, Joe and Carol are dedicated to supporting the community in which they have lived for almost 25 years.
